This paper deals with the outcomes of Galenism in Greek Late Antiquity and in the first period of the Byzantine era, considering particularly the rare but significant elements of novelty which are present in the rereading of the ancient tradition by John of Alexandria, in the Alexandrian Summaries of the Galenic Canon, and by Stephanus and Theophilus Protospatharius.

This article analyses the specific contribution of Gender Studies and their underlying epistemology to the study of Greek texts. The first part of the paper is dedicated to the clarification of the origin, the use and the definition of ‘gender’. Gender Studies approach is than analysed in relation to social history, rituals and myth, literary texts, biology, medicine and sexuality, botany and practices of magic, philosophy, art and archaeology. In conclusions, if ideology is abandoned, gender can still be a valid heuristic tool in reconstructing of Greek society.

The Lexikon by Hesychius from Alexandreia (V-VI century) is one of the most important lexicographical works in Ancient Greek. It contains an encyclopedic amount of glossematic terms (lexeis) from several kinds of literary sources – epic, lyric and dramatic poetry, rhetoric, historiography, paremiography, neo and veterotestamentary tradition, and so on.
